| Area Attractions | The Getty Center The Getty Center houses the extraordinary collection of pre-20th century paintings and antiquities brought together by oil magnate J. Paul Getty. The spectacular new Getty Center, situated on 600 mountaintop acres overlooking West Los Angeles. The Center's five two-story exhibition pavilions are filled with a dazzling collection of world art with breathtaking views from the windows and balconies. Attendance at the Museum is limited by a reserved parking system. Parking fees are $5 per car. If you plan to drive to the Getty Center, we urge you to make parking reservations at least two months in advance of your arrival. Call (310) 330-7300. Public transportation, as well as numerous shuttle services available from your hotel in Santa Monica, can also deliver you directly to The Getty Center. However, those using these alternatives may encounter long lines, delays and possibly may not be admitted during busy summer and weekend periods due to site capacity limitations. Parking on surrounding streets is prohibited. The Getty Center is closed on Mondays and major holidays. Disneyland The original "Magic Kingdom" in Anaheim is just one hour from Santa Monica. the park, which features a newly redesigned "Tomorrowland", as well as its world-renowned rides, shows and shops is open year round. Universal Studios Hollywood Universal City, CA 91608 Hours vary by season Universal Studios Hollywood, overlooking Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley, is about a 45-minute drive from Santa Monica. The tram tour makes multiple stops around the Universal "lot" to give visitors an exciting look at how motion pictures are made. It includes special effects shows based on some of Universal's most popular releases as well as performances. The Santa Monica Pier The Santa Monica Pier, built in 1908, is the oldest pleasure pier on the west coast. For generations, it has been the focal point of the city's beach and its premier attraction. Located on the Pier are the historic Looff Hippodrome building and carousel, the spectacular rides and games of the Pacific Park, shops, restaurants, pubs, entertainment, and a fishing balcony. Pacific Park Pacific Park, also on the Santa Monica Pier, is the only west coast amusement park to be located on a pier over the ocean. Guests pay only for the rides they use in this non-gated park which features a 9-story tall Ferris wheel, an oceanfront rollercoaster that rises 5 stories above the water, nine other family rides, midway games, a food plaza, and boutiques. Call (310) 260-8744 for more information. Beverly Hills Beverly Hills, perhaps the world's best-known enclave of the rich and famous, is only 15 minutes from Santa Monica. You can reach it by car, cab or public transportation. Rodeo Drive, the fabulous shopping street begins at Wilshire Boulevard and continues North to Santa Monica Boulevard. It is the California home of famous jewelry and fashion emporiums and of the salons of the world's renowned designers. You'll find many cafes and restaurants within Beverly Hills' commercial center.
